Comedian Stephen Bailey will be back in Lancashire on tour this month and he could be returning permanently soon.

The stand-up comedian and host of Channel 5's Celebs on The Farm has grown disillusioned with London and is planning to move back later this year.

His 'Can't be Bothered' tour reaches Bury and Darwen this month and he says: 'My parents are coming to the show at The Met in Bury, so that should be lots of fun. It is always nice to come back home. I have never lost my love for the north.

'I thought it was really great growing up in Denton. My family are still living there, so I try to go back nearly every month to visit. My partner and I are even looking to maybe move back this year. For me, it has a real sense of community, which I have not found in London. I remember when I kissed my first girlfriend, by the time I got back home my mum knew as someone had been window-twitching!'

Stephen's friendly and open brand of gossipy humour has made him one of the UK's most exciting up-and-coming acts in comedy.

His new show features new material, storytelling, some inappropriate anecdotes and sincerity. It is a very personal journey for Stephen who shows his vulnerability on stage by exploring what it's like to be a woke comedian.

'Now, everyone is expected to have an opinion on everything,' he says. 'In this show I have put together everything I have got a bee in my bonnet about. I want it to feel very present. Even though I have written a show, I want to make it a lot looser. I am going to go off piste and if someone has a different opinion from me, we can engage with it.'

The tour is latest episode in a busy year for Stephen who has recently filmed Live at the Apollo, the second series of The Stand-Up Sketch Show and Celebrity Coach Trip, which is airing now on E4.

'I was absolutely dreading it as you have no idea who you are going to be on the coach with,' he says. 'But it turned out to be such a nice, enjoyable experience. I have walked away with ten new friends, and since we filmed it in June I have seen those people more than I have seen some of my old friends.'

Stephen Bailey plays the Darwen Library Theatre on March 11th and The Met in Bury on March 28th. Tickets from stephenbaileycomedy.co.uk.
