The New Life Horse Care Sanctuary charity, based in Silverton, is calling for your vote to win The People’s Projects in the West Country West region for 2017. The Big Lottery Fund, ITV and The National Lottery have teamed up to give the UK public the chance to decide how £3 million of National Lottery funding will make a difference in their local area. The three projects within the West Region, with the most public votes will receive grants of up to £50,000 to help them develop their work even further to improve the lives of people in their communities.

Jackie Tye moved from being a successful London artist to creating a horse sanctuary and child therapy charity. Over the last ten years, Jackie has cared for over 200 horses and ponies, providing respite for the sick, injured and traumatised. Her objective is always to heal and then rehome these horses wherever possible. The children that she helps often can’t even get placements anywhere else due to the severity of their conditions and their need for 1:1 help and support. Jackie explains how the young people who go there are hurting, in great pain and have lost hope. She wants to give hope back through the interaction with her horses. It’s an honest, authentic communication whereby the horses are able to meet the children where they are, and in this way, trust can be gained. Just like the horses, the children find hope at NLHC and a whole new future opens up for them, the horses help to heal the children, and the children help to heal the horses. But, it’s not just the learners and the horses that are benefiting from NLHC, families and carers of the children also gain through the experience.

Jackie is hoping for the Devon community to help her cause and vote for her so that she can expand her equine therapy facilities and continue to rescue and rehabilitate traumatised and sick horses in Devon who are facing uncertain futures.

People can vote once per region. To support the Hope Beyond Hurt: Equine Healing project please visit www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk Voting deadline is April 3rd.
