Yorkshire terrier explores York and surrounding area in Youtube series.

York has a newfound celebrity in its midst, in the form of adorable canine travelogue presenter, Yorkie. Yorkie’s travelogue series has proven a huge success with locals and visitors of York and North Yorkshire, raking in hundreds of YouTube views and becoming a viral hit.

Visit York recruited Yorkie back in August as the cities very own travel guide presenter, and he has already been out and about exploring some of York’s best spots to visit and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and National Railway Museum. We caught up with Visit York to find out a little bit more on our new favourite fluffy celeb.

How did the idea come about for the travelogue and having a canine presenter?

We know that photos and videos of loveable animals, especially dogs are really popular on social media. So by commissioning this travelogue series through the eyes of ‘Yorkie’, an adorable Yorkshire terrier, we aim to give newcomers to York and York fans a fun flavour of the adventure that awaits you here in beautiful York and North Yorkshire.

Why was Yorkie chosen?

Yorkie is a Yorkshire terrier, one of Yorkshire’s most famous exports!

Can you tell us a bit more about Yorkie’s personality?

Yorkie’s real name is Sunny, he is 8 years old, lives in Coventry and likes walks around the countryside and playing with his toys in the garden.

What has been the response from the people of York?

The trailer for Yorkie’s series has been viewed on Visit York’s YouTube site almost 5000 times whilst the Episode 1 has reached almost 1000 views in less than a week.

The feedback we’ve received from the people of York, as well as viewers from all over the world, is that the campaign is a great way to showcase the beauty of York and North Yorkshire’s stunning landscapes and visitor attractions and they can’t wait to see more of him in future episodes!

You can catch Yorkie’s series of travelogues at youtube.com/visityorkand on the Visit York Instagram.

We also want to see photos of your pets in and around Yorkshire. Upload your pet pictures to Instagram using the hashtag #secretyorkshirelifeofpets and we might even re post some of our favourites.
