The magical combination of a great pub at the end of a satisfying dog walk. Paws out for these popular pubs:
The Calder Vale Hotel, Horbury
There are all sorts of dog walking routes from the Calder Vale Hotel but the most popular are the Horbury Lagoons to the east and along the banks of the Calder River and the Calder and Hebble Canal. If you're feeling up to it, and quite a few visitors do, you can walk to Dewsbury along the canal and into Wakefield along the river.
The Ship Inn, Sewerby
The Ship Inn, in Sewerby on the East Yorkshire coastline, overlooks Flamborough Head and Bridlington Bay. This traditional pub is well known not only for award winning cask ales and great pub grub, but for how dog friendly it is. There's plenty of space for your furry friends to roam in the large beer garden and they have their own menu, including Cumberland Sausage, Puppiccinos and Doggie Lollies. Charity events see donations going to, among others, the PDSA, RSPCA and Oakwood Dog Rescue Centre.
The Wheatsheaf, Wensleydale
The Wheatsheaf, Carperby, Wensleydale If you're looking for dog friendly accommodation in the Yorkshire Dales, the Wheatsheaf is just the place. There are some fantastic walks right from the doorstep of the Wheatsheaf and dogs are welcome in many of the rooms.
The Golden Lion, North York Moors
At Osmotherley on the North York Moors The Golden Lion welcomes dogs to the dining area with their grown ups who love the excellent gastro offering. Nice walks nearby too.
The Crown, Hutton-le-Hole
The Crown at Hutton-le-Hole has the fine combination of stylish surroundings, satisfying dining and a welcome for your happy hound.
The Carpenters Arms, Felixkirk
A cosy bar area and dog-friendly garden rooms make this a great spot for a decent pint, genuinely good food and a welcome for your faithful hound. We once got snowed in here - a joy!

The Black Swan, Helmsley
Helmsley is a hero of a place when it comes to dogs - owners and pets will be welcomed in shops, cafes and the very charming Black Swan. Four-legged friends can dine with you in the resident lounge and bar area and will receive water and a biscuit. Or if Fido prefers to relax, he can stay in your room whilst you dine in the restaurant.
