28 The Causeway, Horsham, West Sussex

Arguably one of the finest Georgian townhouses in Sussex, and on one of the most prestigious streets in Horsham, this Grade II-listed property still has many of the original 18th century period features.

Inside: Perfect for entertaining, the large family home comes with a coach house that’s now a cottage, six bedrooms and every woman’s dream – two of the suites have dressing rooms. The dining hall, drawing room and library all have shutters and fireplaces while the kitchen opens onto a breakfast room and sheltered courtyard. On the top floor there are three bedrooms, a family bathroom and kitchen so it could be a self-contained apartment for growing teens or friends staying for the weekend. There is also a coach house to the rear of the house, which has two bedrooms and is a flexible space that can be used as a gym with an office and a flat above.

Outside: Set within 0.37 of an acre, the landscaped garden is designed as three distinct ‘rooms’ with a secluded and sheltered courtyard garden at the rear, with French doors out from the drawing room, and the sliding glazed doors out from the kitchen/breakfast room, a flower garden and a hidden garden with a mature oak and specimen trees. There is a double car port and off-street parking for another four cars.

LOCAL AREA

One of Sussex’s most well-known roads is The Causeway, which leads from the old Town Hall to Horsham’s oldest building, St Mary’s Church. Apart from the obvious modern additions like tarmac, and yellow lines, it remains almost exactly as it has for many years. Built during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, the street is lined with London plane trees.
