Holly Harris, from Blostma Floristry and Lifestyle (formerly Frogmary Flowers) is running a series of workshops in The White Barn at Frogmary Green Farm.

Holly will provide wintery foliage including eucalyptus, spruces and bay, along with decorative materials such as ribbons, dried oranges and baubles. With Christmas music and hot drinks and cake provided, this is a creative way to spend a couple of hours getting into the festive spirit.

SHEPPY'S CIDER, nr Taunton

A glass of winter spiced cider and a mince pie kicks off the proceedings in style and gets everyone in the festive spirit.

The creative evening is led by local flower grower and florist Jan Boddington of Blue Shed Flowers. Ensuring the wreath if sustainable and fully compostable, willow will be used from the farm to make a natural base along with a diverse range of foraged materials from hedgerows and gardens.

Held in the festively decorated Music Hall at the National Trust property, Fyne Court, the workshop is run by Jan Boddington from Blue Shed Flowers. Jan will show how to use both fresh and dried materials to decorate a willow base. Working with natural materials, she will demonstrate techniques and approaches that can be applied to a range of floristry projects. Refreshments will be provided with the promise of warm festive drinks and snacks.

Garden Designer & Cut Flower Grower, Angela Brooke-Smith, will lead this relaxed workshop in the Jubilee Hall in Winsham, demonstrating how to make a sumptuous evergreen and sustainable wreath. Angela will supply a straw covered 12” wire ring, evergreen foliage, cones and ribbon, along with additional embellishments available to buy on the day to make the design extra special.

Refreshments of tea, coffee and homemade cake are also provided.

This workshop is run by Esme from The Honey Seeker Floral Design of Bruton. Esme puts sustainability at the heart of everything she does, with creations made from British flowers and eco-friendly materials, all sourced as locally as possible. She also specialises in flower preservation and in this workshop will demonstrate how to create wreaths with a mixture of living and dried flowers and material, resulting in a fully biodegradable wreath.

The workshops take place in the Studio, set in the glorious grounds of Caisson House and are led by Amanda Honey, Garden Designer, stylist and creator of Caisson Gardens, and art teacher, Alexandra Hucks.

With a sustainable and natural theme, the wreaths will use foraged garden greenery and fragrant herbs, adorned with berries, seed heads, silk and velvet ribbons. Refreshments include warm mulled apple juice pressed from the Caisson orchards and homemade Christmas treats.

DUNSTER WINTER FESTIVAL

There is a wreath making workshop at the Dunster Watermill Tearoom on November 27 (nationaltrust.org.uk). If you miss this one, not to worry, there are two more being held for the Dunster Winter Festival in the Memorial Hall on the High Street.

This celebration of Christmas has a full itinerary of theatre, music and craft events over the weekend. Refreshments are included but there is an additional cost for materials, dependent on the choice of wreath.

A festive crafting session will take place at the Carymoor nature reserve led by Karen Boswell, the Learning and Wellbeing Co-ordinator. Christmas wreaths will be woven from willow and decorated with foliage from around the reserve. In addition, Karen will show how to create willow Swedish stars which can be decorated later at home. Mulled apple juice and mince pies will be served, but bringing a packed lunch is suggested.

COMMON FARM FLOWERS

December 13, 5pm – Mossed Wreaths

Both workshops are on Zoom. If you can’t attend live, you will be sent the recording to watch at your leisure.

Flower farmer and florist Georgie Newbery is at the helm. In the first demonstration she shows how to make a willow wreath (or any good bendy sticks will work) whilst in the second, she creates a mossed wreath. Both are then transformed into Christmas decorations with materials foraged from the garden.
