The city lies on the River Avon and is bordered by Gloucestershire to the north and Somerset to the south.
Food and drink fix
From Michelin star chefs to street food, Bristol is sure to be the city to get those taste buds tingling.
It also has an abundance of breweries, tap rooms and beer events, as well as some colourful cocktail bars headed up by master mixologists.
At this time of year, one of the city’s massive foodie draws is its al fresco dining scene, with outdoor gardens in country pubs to the waterfront restaurants along the floating harbour.
Dance the night away
The music scene in Bristol is eclectic to say the least - with amazing live music across the city and events like Bristol Sounds returning to the Harbourside this month. The biggest event in the cultural calendar for 2023 will be the reopening of the city's biggest venue and cultural icon, Bristol Beacon. Complete with a transformed main auditorium and a new venue in the cellars beneath the building, this will be a return to glory with major artists now able to return to the city outside of festival season.
Bristol International Balloon Fiesta
Europe’s largest annual hot air balloon festival, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, returns for its 45th year in 2023. Taking place over four days between August 10-13, the morning mass ascents are not to be missed. Around 100 hot air balloons lift off from the beautiful grounds of Ashton Court Estate in the morning light, so what’s not to love?
Bristol Harbour Festival
The annual dance, music and arts extravaganza will be returning to Bristol’s iconic harbourside over the weekend of July 15 and 16, with family activities, circus performers, delicious food stalls, visiting vessels and some mega live music. Completely free to attend, Bristol Harbour Festival showcases the latest Bristol musical talent, local dance performers, world class circus and on-water activities.
Out and about
From big screen cinemas to aquariums, museums and galleries – Bristol has days out for everyone, be it families, couples or individuals.
Not forgetting The Bristol Hippodrome, which welcomes top West End touring shows and has one of the largest theatre stages in Britain. This month the venue has brought smash hit musical The Lion King to audiences.
