A thriving day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3-18 years, Queen’s College offers a broad curriculum where pupils thrive on the expertise, encouragement and support of a dedicated staff. The outstanding pastoral support enables pupils to thrive in a relaxed family school which combines traditional values with the demands of a modern education.
Examination results are consistently excellent and the curriculum is enriched by a comprehensive range of academic societies and trips both locally and overseas. The perpetually evolving curriculum will include Mandarin, Latin and German from September 2015, in addition to French and Spanish.
An outstanding co-curricular programme encourages children to take the lead and develop their interests and talents. A plethora of activities as diverse as dance, music, theatre club, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, canoeing, climbing, cookery, miniature war gaming, debating and Model United Nations, in addition to exceptional sports clubs which include team games and individual pursuits.
A deserved reputation for the creative and performing arts sits comfortably alongside a growing reputation for sporting success, notably this year hockey, riding, athletics and swimming. The well-resourced music department which has a range of choirs and choral groups, orchestras and bands has built an outstanding reputation for the quality of the musicians it produces.
Applications for Academic, Art, Music, Sport and Performing Arts scholarships are invited for 11+, 13+ and 16+ entry and for Music only at 10+.
Short History
Queen’s College was founded in 1843 within the grounds of The Castle, adopting its present name in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. The School is part of the Methodist Schools’ Group and the Chaplain leads the school in worship and assemblies which are open to all faiths.
Results
93% A*-C at GCSE in 2013 (95-100% A*-C in English, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Literature, History, Information Technology, Ethics & Philosophy and Food Tech).
88% A*-C at A Level in 2014 (95-100% A*-C in Art, Computing, Critical Thinking, Design Technology, Economics, English, Ethics & Philosophy, French, Geography, Music, Politics, Performance Studies, Photography, Russian, Spanish, Textiles) with nearly all students gaining places at their chosen universities.
Age Range/Intakes and Fees
Ages: 3-18 with entry for all age groups except Year 11 throughout the year. There is much excitement about the extension of nursery provision to include infants from September 2015 in a newly-acquired building next door to the school and the addition of a new senior girls’ boarding house.
Fees: Full time Nursery £1,680 per term; Reception to Year 6 £1,895-£3,840 per term for day pupils and £4,100-£6,200 per term for boarding; Year 7 to Year 13 £4,650 to £5,470 per term for day pupils and £7,320 to £9,050 per term for boarding.
