Cross the park with the play area on your right towards the picnic tables. At the flood wall turn right up on to the river bank and pass through the kissing gate. You now follow the riverbank passing Ashtree Farm Drainage Mill on the opposite bank, passing around the front of Three Mile House. Pass through the kissing gates following the path to Mautby Marsh Farm through the kissing gates. At the hand rail turn right.

The River Bure. The River Bure. (Image: Peter James) 2. You now leave the riverbank. Taking the concrete track beside the farm follow to a right hand corner. If wanting to do the shorter walk turn right and follow the path ahead through to point four on the map. Where there is a finger post to your left follow this path through to Decoy Farm. Turn right. Follow the road. Turn right at the junction then right on to Hall Road then turn left passing through the attractive weaved fencing. Go down the drive through the five bar gate crossing the yard to a gap in the hedge where there is a marker post. At the junction turn left following the winding path to Lower Wood Farm holiday complex. Pass in front of the barn conversion. Turn right then at the marker post turn right following the path between the paddocks with the hedge on your left. At the end of the hedge turn left following the winding path through to West End.

Turn right then left following to the end of the road taking the footpath through to a track. Go straight on passing West Farm. At the road turn sharp right. Follow track to a footpath coming in from your right. Turn left following the concrete track to the marker post, taking the enclosed path to the river bank up onto the path. Turn left to follow the path back to the start.

The starting point, Bure Park in Great Yarmouth, is a beautifully maintained 20-acre open space bordering the River Bure with an 18-hole pitch and putt course, a children's play area, lake with wildfowl and a picnic seating area.

Timeless views

You have good views of wind pumps on this walk. The first, on the opposite bank, is Ashtree Farm Drainage Mill, which was restored to its present state by Norfolk Windmill Trust from 2006 to 2008. As you turn off the riverbank, Mautby Marsh Drainage Mill will be seen - this is converted to living accommodation.

The pretty village is home to a number of historic buildings, including Mautby Hall, which dates back to the 16th century. The Grade II listed building is known for its beautiful architecture and stunning gardens.

St Peter and St Paul Church, which dates back to the 14th century, is known for its beautiful stained glass windows and stunning architecture. Mautby Mill dates back to the 18th century and is Grade II listed building.
