This beautiful barn at Scarisbrick has been given an extensive makeover that has retained many of its original features
The vendors say
When was the house built?
1672
How long have you lived in the house?
We have lived here for eight years.
What first attracted you to it?
The magnificent very impressionable building that just shouted out to our hearts. It felt like it was in the country yet so close to everything.
How have you changed the house?
We have upgraded the barn massively including having it connected to the main drains. We have installed three new log burners, new boilers, new bathrooms, wardrobes, new kitchen, and utility, landscaped the gardens, rebuilt the garage and boot room/gym and installed CCTV and alarms. Every room has been changed despite it being lovely when we bought it. We have personalised it and tried to mix contemporary with old but have tried to remain true to the integrity of the building.
What will you miss most about the house?
We will miss so much about the barn, it’s difficult to pick just one thing. It has been an amazing family home. The barn has a cosy country cottage feel and can also be a fabulous entertainment house when you want it to be. We will miss the very private south facing garden and all the garden parties too. At Christmas it becomes magical with the Christmas trees and everywhere lit up.
Describe the garden:
The barn is set in an acre plot with a large south facing lawn. The actual barn is surrounded by different patio areas which wrap around the barn, each one representing a little garden room reflecting rooms in the barn. There are floral borders surround the patio areas and lots of different areas to enjoy the sunshine with a glass of wine and three different water features to promote calmness and relaxation. The garden is a reflection of the barn and again we used a lot of reclaimed material in-keeping with the age of the building.
