The vendors say

When was the house built?
We were given a package containing the historical deeds when we completed the purchase. They show the house existing in 1798 but we cannot be certain of the exact build date.

What first attracted you to it?
We viewed the house nextdoor about two years earlier so had seen Oaklands from the outside and thought it was an impressive property but it wasn't on the market. In 2019 Oaklands was up for sale and from the moment we drove through the electric gates we just fell in love with it, even before we stepped into the house.

How have you changed the house?
It's taken us three years to complete a full refurbishment inside and out. We wanted to maximise the light downstairs so we merged the old lounge and snug into a large open-plan space and installed new sash windows which now flood the house with bright sunshine. It was a challenge to get the interior decor right. We wanted to blend the original farmhouse character with a modern twist so we opted for a hint to the art deco era which has worked really well especially with the feature walls and lighting.

What will you miss most about the house?
We'll definitely miss pulling the blinds down on a cold, wet winter night and getting the log fire roaring. It's also a great place to decorate at Christmas time. We think most of all though it'll be the privacy and tranquility.

Describe the garden:
The garden has a glorious English cottage garden feel. It wraps around the house so you can enjoy the sunshine at any time of the day and there's tons of space for entertaining. In spring there are snowdrops, colourful flowers and a huge magnolia tree blossoms in the front garden and in summer, the borders in the main garden come to life and that's the time to just sit back, relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the countryside. Whether that's on the Juliette balcony with morning tea watching the birds or in the evening on the west facing kitchen patio enjoying a chilled wine watching the sun set.
