This large family house in the countryside near Clayton-le-Dale is ideal for entertaining – and relaxing

The vendors say

How long have you lived in the house?
We have lived in the house for nearly 13 years and completely renovated it from 2010-2012.

What first attracted you to it?
The house itself had plenty of space for a growing family but I think the gardens were what originally drew us to the house. It has a variety of mature trees and shrubs and lovely views over the surrounding countryside and down the valley.

How have you changed the house?
We began renovating the house in 2010, starting with the kitchen and then slowly working through the rest of the house, redecorating and refitting the lounge, study, family room and bathrooms. Simpsons of Colne helped us design a new statement staircase and we added underfloor heating and a designer chandelier to complete the transformation of the main entrance hall.

What will you miss most about the house?
It has been the perfect family house and I have enjoyed watching our children grow up here. There has been plenty of space for birthday parties, sleepovers and entertaining and the house has always been a happy one. I personally will miss the garden and sitting, surrounded by roses in the sunshine, listening to the birdsong.

Describe the garden:
We have poured heart and soul into the garden, adding a barbecue and firepit area, designed to catch the sunset, a fenced vegetable garden with raised beds and fruit cages, extensive flower beds to add year-round colour as well as a treehouse and outdoor play area for the children.  There are plenty of quiet corners to sit, on the patio, among the flowers, or under the great cedar tree but I think my favourite is admiring the view from the bench behind the greenhouse among the roses.
