Ashurst Hall Farm at Dalton, near Wigan is beautiful inside and out

THE VENDORS SAY

When was the house built?
It’s a very historic home that dates back to the 17th century and it was originally part of the Ashurst Hall Estate.

How long have you lived in the house?
We have lived in the house 12 years now and have enjoyed it immensely.

What first attracted you to it?
What struck us immediately was the private approach and the home’s magnificent grounds with its formal gardens and beautiful views. When we stepped inside it immediately felt like home, with the accommodation being a perfect blend of old and new with original features in the kitchen and dining area which at one stage in its history had been used for the production of cheese.

How have you changed the house?
Since we’ve been here we have modernised all the bedrooms and the bathrooms, we’ve also added cosy log burners in the reception rooms. The study and the library/office have also been updated.

What will you miss most about the house?
We will miss the peace and quiet, and how much of an escape it feels to live here, the surroundings and views are so special to us and of course the home’s feeling of history.

Describe the garden.
The gardens are extremely established, they are unique and look wonderful throughout the seasons, a large oak tree is a real focal point. The peacefulness of the garden is wonderful too, it’s a place to sit and read in total privacy and to enjoy those views.
