Up to 2,000 whooper swans provide one of the region’s great wildlife spectaculars when they descend on Martin Mere. And on four Tuesdays this month there’s the chance to see them – and much more besides – on a floodlit mere after the reserve has closed its doors. A warden will join you in a heated hide to give a commentary on the birds and the journey they take every year to spend winter in the UK. The floodlit swan events will be held in the Raines Observatory from 6.30-8pm on January 10, 17, 24, and 31. wwt.org.uk/wetland-centres/martin-mere
