Our judges have selected the winners of the Lancashire Life photography competition in association with Wilkinson Cameras
here are the photographs which have taken the prizes in our brilliant competition. Our panel of judges faced a tough task in choosing the best shots from the hundreds of entries and after much deliberation agreed on a top three. The judges first selected a long list of 50 which was gradually narrowed down to a short list of 20 from which our three prize winners and the 12 shots for our 2013 calendar were chosen.
The top prize of a Nikon D5100 and AF-S 18-55 VR worth �630, went to Southport’s Stephen Bowden, currently living in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, for his shot of Blea Tarn at Langdale.
Lancashire Life’s picture editor John Cocks said: ‘Once again Lancashire Life readers have excelled themselves and taken a stunning selection of pictures. They have been out in all weathers and have looked creatively at every corner of the region.
‘It was difficult even to select the shortlist, but to get that down to a top three was a very tough task. Stephen’s shot was a worthy winner though. It is brilliantly framed and makes wonderful use of the light and conditions.’
David Ashmore’s picture of an early morning stroll in Leyland’s Worden Park took the �400 Nikon Coolpix P7100 second prize and the judges selected Cheryl Quine of Cockermouth to win the third prize Nikon Coolpix AW100 worth �250 for her shot of bluebells in Rannerdale.Staff at competition sponsors Wilkinson Cameras shops across the North West were involved in the judging process and managing director David Parkinson said: ‘As most of our staff are keen photographers we thought it would be good to have input from all the stores and they each voted for their favourite images. Although tastes varied, the overall comments were that it was a great set of images that reflected the beautiful part of the country we live in. Who could ask for a better subject matter for photographers across the region than our very own environment?”
And Lancashire Life deputy editor Paul Mackenzie added: ‘The response to our annual photographic competition is always breathtaking and this year was no exception. Every year that the standard of the entries seems to be higher than ever.
‘These winning shots – and all the photographs that made it on to the long list – show not only what a beautiful part of the country we live in, but also how talented and creative our readers can be. I’m already looking forward to next year’s competition.’
