Celebrity chef Marco Pierre White attended the launch of his very own ale, The Governor (named after one of his father’s greyhounds) at a help for Heroes charity event held at the Castle Inn in Chiddingstone. Along with their guests, Marco and his friend of 30 years, chef-director John McManus, enjoyed an alfresco lunch prepared by head chef Andy Wilson which included poached and roasted Kentish beef sirloin. Marco signed more than 60 copies of his Marco Made Easy cookery book, plus some of his earlier books eager fans brought along, including White Heat, The Great British Feast and Devil in the Kitchen.
Marco’s reason for creating The Governor is simple: “The motive for launching this is purely romantic,” he told Kent Life. “Every bloke wants to own his own pint. I also like flavour, that’s why I am not a lager drinker! A pint works much better with British food than wine. John is a great friend and a really good man and I like his pub very much – it’s the perfect place for my pint.”
The event raised �260 for Help for Heroes.
