Non-invasive treatments are becoming more and more popular, what but can you actually expect from your treatment? We put our questions to Dr Shideh Gilmore-Parvazi, owner and practitioner at Winchester's newly opened Shideh Facial Aesthetics

How long has Shideh Facial Aesthetics been open?

We've been open now for four to five months. However, I have been doing facial aesthetic treatments since 2010. I'm continuously updating my knowledge by attending regular courses to develop my skills and to stay up to date with the most recent techniques. I want to ensure the treatments I offer are of the highest standard.

What's popular with clients?

Our clients come to us for a range of injectable facial aesthetic treatments such as wrinkle softeners, dermal fillers, polynucleotides, profhilo and micro needling using a skin pen.

There are so many different non-invasive treatments out there. How do I decide the right one for me?

We offer a free consultation with the clinician who will assess your face and advise you according to your concerns and needs. We will explain how each material is used and their effects in details, answering any questions to decide which treatment will best target your needs.

What questions should you ask at the consultation?

The most frequently asked question is whether the result will be achieved in the way that you expect as well as how long does it take for the result to be visible and how long does the result last? You should also ask if there are any side effects and risks and what is the downtime?

What qualifications should I ensure my practitioner has?

The more qualifications a practitioner has the better. As facial aesthetics are done in the area of the head and neck, the same medical degree for dentistry is required in order for practitioners to be fully aware of the anatomy of the face and neck and the vital structures.

Make sure that the practitioner has obtained all the necessary course qualifications for the treatments offered and check how many years they have being practising as well as how much experience they have.

Can I have a range of different treatment options, or is it advisable to stick with one?

You can have a different range of treatment options as long as the clinician recommends it or advises that it is safe to have them.

Are all treatments for the face, or are other parts of the body treatable?

The treatments we offer are primarily for the face and neck, however you could also choose a treatment which rejuvenates the hands or targets excessive sweating on the palms or underarms, as well as fat dissolving treatments.

How often should treatments be done?

It depends on what treatment you are having and how fast your body dissolves the material. Some treatments come as a package of six sessions, which means they will work better once they are repeated in shorter intervals. Some treatments need to be done only once every three to five months.

The practitioner will assess your expressions and skin and will advise how often the treatment should be done.

Are there any one-off treatments, or do most of them require a course of sessions?

Examples of one off treatments are wrinkle treatments on the forehead and around the eyes. Or dermal fillers if the volume loss is not large or lines are not deep. Sometimes the areas of the treatment need a little top-up two weeks after the treatment.

How long before I start to see results?

Depending on the treatment and skin and muscle reaction to the treatment, it takes from one to two-and-a-half weeks to see the result.

Do they have long-lasting effects?

The skin and body is ageing constantly. The treatments are not permanent and will dissolve after three to five months according to their manufacturers and studies. However, treatments such as micro needling help the body to build collagen which prolongs the youth of the skin.

Why are these non-invasive treatments becoming so popular?

Because there is no surgery, scalpel, cutting or stitching involved. The treatments are not painful and as opposed to surgery there is no pain after the treatments. The down time and recovery time is much quicker. The person receiving the treatment can have some of the treatments in their lunch break and the treatment cost is much less than surgical treatments. Most importantly, the effect wears off after a few months meaning, if the patient does not like the result, they don't need to live with it permanently.
