The annual festival is calling on members of the local community to create their very own piece of art
The countdown is well and truly on for Bournemouth's Arts by the Sea Festival, with proceedings kicking off in just over two weeks time on Friday 27 September. The weekend-long event will celebrate the very best art, culture, people and places throughout the local area, with an action packed calendar of events set to take place.
This year the festival will be focused on the theme of 'Mind Matter', asking the pressing question of whether modern life is conducive to a positive state of mind. It hopes to highlight some of the stigmas and taboos around mental health, with a wide range of community projects and creative commissions that aim to leave a lasting legacy on Bournemouth whilst promoting wellbeing in all its forms.
As part of this, it has been announced that visitors can have their own colourful beach hut design featured as part of a bespoke BeachHUTS commission created by Artist Open Call Winner 2019, Andy McKeown. This light installation will appear at Middle Gardens for the duration of the event, and it's sure to create a stunning spectacle.
To be involved, all you need to do is pick up a template from any library across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole from Monday 9 September, and then drop it back off at the library by Monday 23 September once completed. The templates will also be available from the installation itself at Middle Gardens on Saturday 28 September from 12-14pm. Each evening's show will then feature new content as provided by locals in Bournemouth.
