"Picturesque" Exmouth has been featured among the best places to live by the sea in the UK for 2024 according to a new list.

The Times has included the Devon town in its list looking at seaside spots that "have something to offer in every season".

They added: "If this year’s stop-start summer weather is good for one thing, it’s to remind us how vital it is to be ready to make the most of a rare day when the sun peeks out from behind the rainclouds.

"Rather than gambling precious time off on our increasingly unreliable climate, live by the sea — then every day can be like a holiday. You’ll be in pole position to spend time in, on or beside the water.

"This selection of the best places to live by the coast includes something for everyone: arty, commutable towns, seaside suburbs, pretty honeypots and spectacular, wild escapes."

What was said about Exmouth?

Among the aspects of Exmouth praised by The Times was the Sideshore development which was described as having "brought new life into the town".

Additionally its "picturesque setting" and "accommodating selection of homes" also made it stand out.

They wrote: "Exmouth’s Sideshore development is an object lesson for any seaside town eager to make the most of its greatest asset.

"This eco-friendly complex, which opened during the pandemic, includes a watersports centre, coffee shops, restaurant and art gallery.

"It has turned east Devon’s only sandy beach into a hotspot for kitesurfers, paddleboarders and kayakers and brought new life into the town.

"Once a sleepy retirement resort, Exmouth is now one of Devon’s top addresses, helped along by a picturesque setting at the mouth of the Exe estuary, regular trains to Exeter and an accommodating selection of homes that covers every rung on the property ladder, from fisherman’s cottages to large detached houses on the Avenues that sell for £1 million."

Exmouth was also named as one of the best places to live in the South West of England for 2024 in the annual Sunday Times Best Places to Live Guide back in March.

The publication praised it for its sandy beach as well as highlighting the Sideshore development as a great asset.

Additionally, in 2023 it was crowned as the Best Place to Live in England according to Muddy Stilettos.

The publication wrote at the time: "What’s not to love about a coastal town nestled where the Exe Estuary meets the sea, with two miles of golden sand, a 200-berth marina and great road and rail connections to Devon’s capital city?

"Exmouth has much for outdoorsy types with its long, easy-to-access beachfront, Jurassic Coast clifftop walks and the Exe Estuary Trail, but it’s the town’s increasingly swanky hospitality that’s putting it on the map."
