We speak with the current owners of the simply stunning North Farm House, in Brailsford.

When was the house built?

The original property was built in the 19th century, with an extensive extension completed in 2016.

How long have you lived in the house?

We’ve lived in the house for 11 years.

What first attracted you to it?

The location, both in terms of it being in a beautiful and conveniently located area of Derbyshire, as well as the private and rural setting, down a long driveway and well set back from the road with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.

How have you changed the house?

We have extensively extended the property to add additional living and entertaining accommodation, making the house a truly flexible family home.

Through careful use of interior design, bespoke joinery and investment in key features such as bespoke fireplaces, we’ve restored character to the property and created an impressive country home.

Through careful architectural design we’ve linked the original property with the new amenity, creating visual interest externally and fantastically spacious internal accommodation. The new rooms have wonderful proportions and allow for fabulous entertaining spaces.

We’ve also designed a kitchen area at the heart of the home, creating a focal point for family life.

Upgrading the principal bedroom suites has established wonderful spaces to rest and relax, with two large ensuite principal or master bedroom suites finished to a high standard.

By re-landscaping the driveway, adding traditional ‘estate fencing’ and planting feature trees, we’ve created an appealing approach to the property that leads the eye onwards towards the garden and house.

What will you miss most about the house?

Living in such a beautiful location, the privacy, and the views of the garden and countryside from both within and outside the house on the many patios and terraces. There’s a wonderful community in the village of Brailsford, from the lovely shops and cafes to the welcoming village church.

What is the garden like?

We inherited a mature garden but with some areas that required attention. It’s been a delight to establish and improve it since arriving at North Farm House.

We have enjoyed building rose borders to add colour through the summer months, re-stocking herbaceous borders and investing in dramatic planting to accentuate the impact of the pond.

We’ve also created further garden areas through extensive landscaping, with new areas of the garden laid to lawn, now tied together by Indian sandstone paving surrounding the house.

The Orchard provides a wonderful family garden for our children to play safely whilst benefiting from the shade of the apple trees, with a wooden play area including slide and swings. The old tennis court is enjoyed for bike and scooter riding as well as football and tennis.
