MORNING
Why not start your 24 hours in Erewash’s largest town with breakfast and a freshly ground coffee or loose tea at the friendly Ilkeston Coffee Bean on Bath Street – and see if they can tempt you with a morning slice of delicious cake!
Whilst on Bath Street, it’s worth popping to a famous local landmark which is a little different to say the least!
The town’s famous ‘hole in the wall’ is basically wall with a circular hole in it next to a cashpoint – added in the 1970s so users of the cash point felt more secure.
Despite this, it has developed something a cult following and now ranks in the top five best reviewed places to visit in across all towns in Derbyshire!
AFTERNOON
Combine the indoors with the outdoors with a visit to Erewash Museum (currently showcasing an ‘Our Queen Remembered’ exhibition) followed by a walk in Victoria Park.

If the weather isn’t great, Victoria Park Leisure Centre is a great option, which includes a swimming pool and a splash pool with a flume for kids.
Another option for outdoor exploration is Straws Bridge, on the border between Ilkeston and nearby West Hall, a nature reserve which comprises three lakes and abundant wildlife. Parking is free.
EVENING
Enjoy an evening meal at Five Rivers, found on Nottingham Road, which offers Indian cuisine and a mouth-watering menu.
The restaurant has a 4.5 out of five stars rating on TripAdvisor and described by one reviewer as a ‘great place to start or end your evening’.
If you’re fortunate enough to be here in October, don’t miss the hugely popular and historically significant charter fair which thrills thousands every year.
