Octavia’s Bookshop in Black Jack Street has been named Best Children’s Independent Bookseller of the Year at the national Bookseller Industry Awards.
Opened just two years ago by Octavia Karavla, the bookshop has gone from strength to strength. Additional to the extensive stock of both children’s and grown up’s books has been an ongoing programme of book groups, author signings and activities making the shop, and Octavia, a firm favourite for children and their parents.
Octavia says: “I could not be happier right now and it wouldn’t have been possible without all my lovely and loyal customers and especially their children who are a huge part of it, appreciate it and absolutely get it!”
The Bookseller Industry Awards were held at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel in London on May 13.
Octavia Karavla opened Octavia’s Bookshop in her home town of Cirencester in March 2011. Still only 32 years old, Octavia has always been passionate about children’s literature and learnt about the book business working for Ottakar’s and then Waterstone’s in Cirencester.
Shortlisted for Best Children’s Independent Bookseller in The Bookseller Industry Awards in 2012, the shop has now won the prestigious award this year.
Octavia’s Bookshop was runner up in the Telegraph’s Best Small Shops in Britain Awards in 2012 and Octavia has been named one of The Bookseller’s ‘Rising Stars’.
