Saving the Cornish coastline

Did you know that your old Christmas trees could help combat coastal erosion in Cornwall? Thanks to an initiative by the environmental group Widemouth Task Force, hundreds of discarded trees have been planted in the dunes along the north coast to protect the shoreline. Dunes are crucial for local wildlife and play a key role in coastal defence. The trees act as natural windbreaks, trapping sand and creating a supportive environment for dune plants to grow, which helps bind the sediment and stabilise the area. Keep an eye out on their Facebook page for ways to donate your trees after Christmas this year.
