June sees the highest number of Cheshire and Wirral gardens opening to the public through the National Garden Scheme for this year.
There are gardens to captivate everyone – country acres, gardens around grand houses, cottage gardens, walled kitchen gardens, urban and suburban gems and a group of village delights opening together.
Enjoy a garden visit this June, not only will you be inspired but you will be supporting health and nursing charities too. Visit findagarden.ngs.org.uk then search by location or by garden name
18 Highfield Road, Bollington SK10 5LR
This small terraced garden packed with plants was designed by Melita Turner and has evolved over the past 16 years. This plantswoman is a plantaholic and RHS Certificate holder. Structural planting is softened by cottage-style planting of perennials.
All Fours Farm, Northwich CW9 6NF
A traditional, well-established country garden with a wide range of roses, hardy shrubs, bulbs, perennials and annuals. There is a small vegetable garden, pond and greenhouse as well as vintage machinery and original features from its days as a working farm. The garden is next to the family's traditional rose nursery.
Burton Village Gardens, Neston CH64 5SJ
(* four gardens): The Coach House, Burton Manor Walled Garden, Briarfield and Trustwood
With light sandy soil, often on a south-facing slope, the village open gardens day is focusing on drought-tolerant planting and copious mulching. The Coach House has stunning views of the Welsh hills and a garden full of colour with herbaceous borders, a cut-flower area and productive fruit and vegetable patch. Using terracing to retain water, it has been successfully extended up the hillside. Briarfield is home to many unusual plants, some available in the plant sale at the house. The one-and-a-half acre main garden invites exploration not only for its variety of plants but also for the imaginative use of ceramic sculptures. In Burton Manor's walled garden, period planting with a splendid vegetable garden surrounds the restored Edwardian glasshouse. Paths lead past a sunken garden and terraces to views across the Cheshire countryside. Trustwood is a relaxed country garden and a haven for wildlife with an emphasis on British native trees planted along the drive, insect-friendly plants and wildlife ponds.
The Homestead, High Legh WA16 0RZ
This compact gem of a garden has been created over the past eight years by a keen gardener and plantswoman. The entrance takes visitors past groups of liquidambar and white-stemmed birch. There are colour-themed areas with perennials, shrubs and trees, old topiary and obelisks covered with varieties of clematis and roses. A vibrant hot border, a decorative greenhouse and a pond to complete the picture.
