Alex Gerrard, wife of Liverpool and England football star Steven, tells us about her new venture, an exclusive nightclub in the city

What’s your latest project?PlayGround is a beautiful late-night venue that is launching in Liverpool next month. The owner George Panayiotou, from The Ability Group, approached me to get involved a while back and when I saw the designs and the ideas for the club it looked fantastic so I immediately agreed to help out.
What exactly is your role at the club?I’ve been asked to design the membership cards for the Private Playroom section of the club. The main room at PlayGround is open to everyone and you don’t have to be a member, but there is a more intimate room with a separate entrance and that is for the members and they can bring a guest, get waitress service, access to a chauffeur driven Bentley and invites for all the VIP parties and after-show events. These memberships are by invite only and I was flattered to be asked to design a card to suit the sort of clientele that PlayGround is going to attract.
What will the club offer that’s not already available in Liverpool?There are some great clubs and bars in Liverpool but this one has a really luxurious feel to it. The owners of the Hilton Liverpool have put in so much effort and attention to detail that I think people from Cheshire and all over the north west will want to travel to go there. It’s going to be well worth the journey.
What would you recommend wearing for a typical night at the Playground?Whatever makes you feel glamorous and confident.
What’s your favourite local restaurant?I love San Carlo in town and the Warehouse in Southport.
Who’s been the biggest influence on your personal style?There’s loads of people whose style I love from the Kardashians to Kate Moss, but there’s no one particular biggest influence.
Tell us who your favourite designer is?The late Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga and Balmain but I also love high street stores like Topshop, Zara and River Island.
What are the three best things about Liverpool?There’s loads of great things about Liverpool and I’m sure the PlayGround is going to be one of them.
When you are not on a night out, how do you spend your time?Dancing and catching up with friends.
How will you be spending Christmas?Probably at home with the family.
What are your plans for work next year?I haven’t got any plans just yet as I’m going to take some time off to spend with the baby.
