When Liz Carter was stuck outside a hotel, on a business trip with no place to stay, she decided that a career in international sales was no longer for her.
‘I was fed up, so I just resigned,’ said Liz, who then wondered what she would go into next. ‘I always had a passion for animals, and I couldn’t have a dog before in my previous role so I decided to get Beryl.’
The mini Schnauzer inspired Liz to go for it and take up a career in dog grooming, so the Handbridge business owner invested her pension into a state-of-the-art, custom built grooming van.
‘The training was very intensive; I was learning something every day for two months. While I was waiting for the van, I started to work with friends who had salons and out of my kitchen before fully launching Vroom2Groom at the start of this year.’
Liz now grooms man’s best friend in her self-powered van, which services an area of 15 miles around Chester. ‘I only groom up to three dogs per day as I don’t want to rush or put the dogs under any pressure - it’s a stress free environment here. The van is pretty special, I don’t think there is anything like it on the road,’ said Liz, who revealed that once she charges it overnight, the van can supply eight hours of electricity and even has its own 250 litre water tank and hydro-bath.
‘You don’t need to hook it up to anything, it’s self sufficient. The salon space is pre-heated, and I even have heated towel rails and an airing cupboard so there’s always warm, fluffy towels. You could sleep in there!’
