For Disley’s gold medal winning Dame, the county means fresh air, fabulous views and family
To me, home is…
The place that I dream about, where we can relax and enjoy our time as a family around busy schedules and travelling here, there and everywhere. I have always seen Disley as my home as I have never lived away from here for long. I love living on the hill and having the Cheshire countryside on my doorstep.
Where do you head for a health kick?
As a cyclist the majority of my training is out on the road, so I can explore the leafy lanes, whilst trying to avoid the potholes!
And to indulge?
We don't tend to leave Disley much, so we would head to the Ram's Head pub for a family dinner or our local Chinese or Saffron Indian.
Where do you do some credit card damage?
I'm not one who goes shopping very much, but if there is ever a special occasion, I will head to local boutiques. It's closed now, sadly, but while I was pregnant the lovely Bump Club in Knutsford helped me get my outfit ready for collecting my Damehood. I received the honour at Buckingham Palace when I was almost eight months pregnant! I really enjoy visiting Black White Denim in Wilmslow. Jo, who owns the shop, is lovely and has been a supporter of the Children's Adventure Farm Trust, which is a Cheshire-based children's charity I am patron of, with my husband.
Most romantic moment in Cheshire?
Our wedding night at Hollin Hall in Kerridge. Barney and I went for a lovely walk outside as the light was fading and we could look back in to the hotel bar and see all our guests having a great time. It was a special day.
Finest view in Cheshire?
The one off the top of Bowstones looking out across Lyme Park and the Cage. The Welsh hills are visible on a clear day to the west, and Manchester city centre and the Lancashire hills to the north, with the Pennines to the east. Perfect.
What's your Cheshire wellness secret?
Fresh air, fresh food and plenty of exercise. I think we are lucky to live in a part of Cheshire that gets a bit hilly and so a blast of air on any kind of day is always good and brings that rush of endorphins.I love being able to drink in the views where we live, too. The weather changes them daily. I'd like it to be a bit drier on occasions though!
Where do you head to relax?
I head home. I love hanging out with family and having some quiet time.
And go wild with friends?
Anywhere our kids can run around too! So usually a park like Lyme or Tatton.
The thing I miss most about Cheshire when I'm away…
The views from the hills and the greenery.
I'm never happier than when I'm…
Heading home from a spin on my bike in the Cheshire lanes in time to spend the rest of the day with Barney, our kids and my parents.
