1. The Babbling Brook, Shurton
Winner of ‘Best Somerset Sunday Roast’ in 2015 and finalist in the same category at the Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards 2016, it’s safe to say we think rather highly of The Babbling Brook’s Sunday lunch.
The traditional lunch also includes gluten free and vegetarian options and with three meats to pick from each week, visitors truly are spoilt for choice. Nestled at the foot of the Quantock Hills, what better way to end a morning’s bimble than by tucking into a delicious roast dinner?
2. The White Horse Inn, Mark
Finalist in the ‘Best Chef of the Year’ and ‘Best Somerset Sunday Roast’ categories at the Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards 2016, you’re guaranteed ‘proper home cooked food’ for your Sunday lunch. Think juicy, melt-in-the-mouth meats, homemade condiments, local fresh vegetables and delicious cauliflower cheese.
The charming country village inn promises a warm welcome and friendly service, and it’s easy to while away an afternoon with an award-winning ale or glass of wine in hand. To avoid disappointment, make sure to book – The White Horse Inn gets busy on a Sunday!
3. The Woolpack, Worle
Just a short drive from Weston-Super-Mare, in the St George’s District of Worle, you’ll find The Woolpack, a much-loved inn known locally for serving a delicious, traditional carvery on a Sunday. Tuck into a range of meats, plenty of veg and tasty Yorkshire puddings alongside an extensive menu of beers and wines to choose from.
This proper pub with a vibrant atmosphere is worth a visit whatever the season; open fires welcome visitors in the colder months while during the summer, seats can be found on the outside patio and pub gardens. They also have an amazing farm shop so you can take some treats home with you.
4. The Anchor Inn, Hillfarrance
Quintessential countryside pubs don’t get much more charming than The Anchor Inn in Hillfarrance, nestled in the countryside, around four miles from Taunton. Boasting a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, the Inn was highly commended in Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards 2015 for ‘Best Somerset Sunday Roast’ and winner in 2014 and 2013. The pub was also a finalist in our 'Family Dining Award' in 2016 and winner in 2017 too.
Call beforehand to avoid disappointment, and visit when hungry, the portions are very generous! If you can try to save room for dessert, there are plenty of homemade puddings that will satisfy your sweet tooth.
5. The Crown Inn, Catcott, Bridgwater
Exuding charm, character and popular with locals and visitors alike, it’s little surprise that The Crown Inn, between the towns of Bridgwater and Street, is so popular. You’re certain of a warm welcome at the Inn, whether you fancy a pint from a selection of well-kept cask ales or a sit-down meal.
With a passion for imaginative home cooked fare, expect a menu brimming with pub classics with inventive twists including a delicious Sunday carvery. 6. Windwhistle Inn, Chard
Well known for satisfying hungry visitors on a Sunday; if a tasty, filling carvery is what you’re after then look no further than the Windwhistle Inn between Chard and Crewkerne. Expect tempting meats, from beef brisket to tasty pork and more, with all the trimmings and lashings of gravy.
If you’re visiting in the summer, enjoy a few afternoon drinks in the pub garden – breathtaking panoramic views of Glastonbury Tor and the Bristol Channel can be admired.
7. At the Chapel, Bruton
Minimalist interiors and chic furnishings all housed in a Grade II listed former chapel, locations don’t get much more Instagram-worthy than At the Chapel on Bruton’s High Street. Alongside pizzas served straight from a wood fired oven to Mediterranean influenced dishes full of the best West Country produce,

8. The Lord Poulett Arms, Hinton St George
Named one of Sunday Times’ 100 Best Restaurants and ‘National Dining Pub of the Year’ by the Good Pub Guide, The Lord Poulett is serious when it comes to serving up the finest fare for their diners. Nestled in the small village of Hinton St George, The Lord Poulett Arms exudes the appeal of your typical countryside pub: think a roaring log fire, charming interiors, a warm welcome from staff and plenty of choice when it comes to real ales.

9. Oakhill Inn, Oakhill
A great base for exploring some of Somerset’s iconic landmarks and attending popular events within the county,
The Oakhill Inn is an award-winning pub offering bedrooms for weary walkers in need of a rest and refuel; and, of course, a tempting Sunday lunch at the end of the week with plenty of choice alongside the a la carte menu. Roast dinners are served from 12-3pm.

13. The Old Thatched Cottage, Weston-Super-Mare

Sat on the outskirts of Taunton in the village of Monkton Heathfield is The Merry Monk, famous for its carvery and serving up generous portions of the nation’s favourite dish throughout the week as well as on a Sunday.
