Sheldon's dairy in Knutsford is celebrating nearly a decade in business. The family firm delivers local milk to your doorstep in the old-fashioned way, along with local eggs, local bread, bacon, potatoes...

There is something reassuring about the ‘chink chink’ of milk bottles in the early hours in Knutsford and the surrounding areas.

It means Sheldon’s dairy are delivering milk, newspapers and plenty of other goods, most sourced locally. Sheldon’s have been in business in Cheshire for 47 years and David Sheldon now takes a back seat - except when he is on his horse drawn milk float.

The float is shown here with the new addition to the family firm, his grandson William, who delivers to Goostrey. David now leaves the day-to-day running of the business to his sons Chris and John and son-in-law Steve.

Against strong competition from supermarkets, Sheldon’s and other milkmen are flying the flag for environmentally friendly containers - the returnable glass milk bottle. ‘We have our own names on the bottles so we can keep tabs on them,’ says senior partner Chris. ‘Because of this we can be sure that we reuse the bottles up to 40 times. All our milk comes from the Cheshire belt and the organic milk comes from the Lake District.

Couple this with free range eggs from Poynton, organic free range from High Legh, bread from Roberts at Northwich, bacon and potatoes from Winsford, and slightly further afield yogurts from Wales and Barrs pop from Manchester, we are a local firm with local interests at heart.’

The firm also runs a non-profit making lottery. So far over 40,000 has been donated to charities, the main beneficiary being East Cheshire Hospice.

Sheldon’s now deliver to Alderley Edge, Wilmslow, Chelford, Goostrey, Plumley, High Legh, Lymm plus the areas in between. In summer they even deliver bedding plants, compost and garden products!
