A smile you can show off can boost your confidence and self-esteem like nothing else.

It's not just cosmetic benefits that come with regular trips to the dentist, as oral health is crucial to your overall wellbeing. “We know that visits to the dentist can be difficult and anxiety-inducing for many people,” says Robert Gosling, owner of Select Dental Care in Exmouth.

“However, after a warm welcome, new patients can expect a thorough chat with their dental surgeon or nurse to ease their worries and help them find the answers they need.”

Below, Robert details some of the treatments available at Select Dental Care, their unique advantages and why it's important to care for your pearly whites.

Q: What are the initial stages of dental treatment for a new patient?

A: The most important aspect of any dental treatment is ensuring that it’s the right one for the patient. We begin with a 60-minute examination, which includes taking a full, detailed dental history, a non-invasive intraoral scan, possible radiographs (X-rays) and a chat with the dental surgeon who will explain the process in detail.

It's vital that each patient has enough time to discuss their wishes and go through the available treatments. In order to ease a patient’s worries before starting any procedures, our highly experienced coordinator is always available. Her wealth of knowledge in various aspects of dentistry ensures that patients can voice their concerns, which greatly enhances their peace of mind

Q: Can you describe your range of dental treatments and their advantages?

A: We provide a wide range of general dentistry, as well as complex treatments, for people looking to fix their smile, prevent dental diseases and maintain healthy gums.

Dental implants and dentures are both excellent solutions for missing teeth, however they both work quite differently. Implants can be a permanent option to replace teeth, and function almost identically to natural teeth – they can be suitable for patients of all ages and have a 95 per cent success rate.

Implants require the same level of care and maintenance as regular teeth, and you don’t have to worry about them slipping out or be self-conscious when eating hard foods. They can transform your smile and drastically improve your quality of life, whether it’s a single implant or a full mouth restoration.

In terms of dentures, we can provide a unique palette treatment developed specifically for each patient. My training as a clinical dental technician, one of only 300 in the UK, provides me with the expertise to construct dentures suited to the individual, rather than just the basic settings. This includes aesthetic aspects such as colour and shape, to functional qualities that are bespoke to your mouth.

Q: What are the options for cosmetic dental treatment?

A: Being self-conscious of crooked or missing teeth can have a massive impact on your confidence. Our Smile Design service enables us to create a personalised treatment plan aimed at restoring and maintaining a smile you can be proud of.

After a meeting with your dentist about what you’d like to achieve, you may start with a visit to the hygienist to clear any long-term plaque and prepare your teeth for further treatment. Teeth alignment is a fantastic method of straightening your teeth and preventing movement – Invisalign clear aligners, alongside composite bonding, can change the position and shape of your teeth.

Q: Are there finance options available for patients?

A: Absolutely, it's essential that we provide high-quality dental treatment that suits a range of budgets. Our patients can spread the cost of their treatment with 0 per cent interest-free finance over six to 12 months. We also offer a membership plan that makes routine check-ups and certain services more affordable and easier to manage. Our plans are very flexible around the patient’s needs.

Q: Why is it so important to be regularly checked by dental professionals?

A: Serious oral health conditions are spreading rapidly throughout the UK, including oral cancer which is very worrying. Unlike most cancers, which are relatively noticeable early on, it can be very difficult to spot oral cancer, making it so important to have regular check-ups.

Our aim is to establish a professional, luxury dental practice that caters to the wider Devon area, delivering exceptional dental treatments that will get you smiling again!
